Welcome to my web site.
Those of you looking for the Hurricane Dennis video will find it at video.allenr.com and my photo gallery is here
I'm one of those guys who have always been in the other room doing something mysterious, and all too often pointless, with The Computer. One of those guys on the periphery that you seldom meet and probably never quite figured out. I've been involved with computers, one way or another, since 1973 which I guess makes me one of the earlier edition nerds.
My nerdiness isn't quite boundless. For example, I've never owned a plastic pocket protector, but I do own five computers, three slide rules and a blog which I hope you'll check out.
This is what I've heard referred to as a vanity page, much like a clever license tag, only bigger. It's mostly stuff for or about my family and friends, meant to amuse most and embarrass a couple. (That'll get 'em wondering!)
I've been a show off since long before the invention of the Internet so web pages were just a natural for me. This site started in June 1994 as "A Piece of Paradise" when I was with Gulfnet Technologies out of Destin, FL. For most of the time since then it has been "The Panhandle Gazette". By whatever name, what you're reading here is probably Version 12.
I lost track some time around the millennium.
Many of my friends have sites dedicated to a single theme or subject. Among them are sites about desktop publishing, Americana, history, art, music, astrology and one attempt to found a new-age religion. My son even tried his hand at building a site about fishing.
It can be argued that I'm the most opinionated person that you'll ever meet but it has always been too restricting for me to try to stick to just one topic. I have a number of Causes and I never hesitate to drag out my soap box. I reserve my American right to rant about whatever strikes my fancy. Hopefully you'll find it amusing. Perhaps I'll even strike a familiar chord. Please feel free to use my guest book (or blog) to let me know.
